Sindhupalchowk International Trail Race, a fundraising race, is scheduled for July 9, 2016. Runners will be able to choose between 30K and 10K running courses in the lush green hills between Chautara and Thulo Sirubari.
Sindhupalchowk, about 3 hours drive from Kathmandu, is one of the most affected districts by the earthquake. The race is an attempt to give continuation to 2015 women's race which brought in some relief after the earthquake and was well received by the locals, says Ram Puri, a French speaking trekking guide from Thulo Sirubari, Sindhupalchowk. Puri helped in bringing several development projects in his village in 2015.
When the earthquake hit, Puri was in Mustang with a group of trekkers. He rushed to Kathmandu as soon as he could, bought supplies and headed back to his village to aid in relief efforts. However, there is a lot to be done still in terms of recovery here.
With the fundraising race, the organizers hope that some of the issues can be addressed.
