Every year, on the third Saturday in July, riders from Nepal and all over the world gather in Kathmandu (last year there were close to 2,500 riders) to ride a personal challenge of 50 km, 75 km and 100 km around the Kathmandu Valley. This is now popular as the Kathmandu Kora, this year on its sixth edition.
Started in 2011, a modest 35 riders challenged themselves and got pledged of around half a million NPR (Nepalese rupees) for a school and an orphanage in Kathmandu. In its second edition, almost 300 riders turned up and raised close to a million for upgrading birthing facilities in Rukum.
n the fifth edition in 2015, there were close to 3,000 riders and over NPR 0.7 m was raised to build a health facility in Makaibari, Gorkha, the devasted area after the great earthquake in 2015.
The best part, there is no participation fee!
Anyone can do the Kora challenge. The rider, friends and family, corporate, individuals from abroad. Anyone. For details go on to the page on website.
