Kathmandu Triennale, Nepal’s only international platform for global contemporary art, is the latest iteration of the pioneering Kathmandu International Art Festival (KIAF) which were held in 2009 and 2012 receiving critical acclaim and resulting in several historic milestones.
The art festival is expected to be participated by more than 60 artists from more than 25 countries, displaying more than 100 exhibits and six special curated showcases. Join the month-long artistic encounters making a historic achievement in the art-rich city of Kathmandu.
KT 2017, the inaugural edition of a new format, will be curated by Philippe Van Cauteren on the theme of "The City" in association with museum Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst of Gent, Belgium. Eminent artist Mr. Francis Alÿs has been chosen as the Patron Artist of KT 2017 for his exceptional work in cities across the world.
Thematically, Triennale artists, curators, and other experts will use Kathmandu as a catalyst and locus to prepare their own meditations on social issues embedded in The City, and promote Nepali arts and culture globally, while positioning Kathmandu as a cultural hub in South Asia.
KT artists include Kader Attia, Song Dong, Shilpa Gupta, Mithu Sen, Surasi Kusolwong, Mahabubur Rahman, Tayeba Begum Lipi, Peter Downsbrough, Henk Visch, Ang Tsherin Sherpa, Ashmina Ranjit, Sujan Chitrakar, and Hitman Gurung.
